Easy Crochet Pumpkin Coaster

This would be especially cute for fall and is a great small project using cotton yarn.
Skill level: Beginner
Finished size: About 4–5 inches
Yarn: Orange 100% cotton
Hook: H/8 (5.0 mm), or the size that gives you a firm fabric
Other: Yarn needle and scissors
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
Pattern:
Round 1: Ch 2. Make 8 sc in the second chain from the hook. Join with a sl st. (8)
Round 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each stitch around. Join. (16)
Round 3: Ch 1. 1 sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. (24)
Round 4: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. (32)
Round 5: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. (40)
Round 6: Ch 1. Sc in each stitch around. Join. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Stem
Using a small amount of brown, green, or even your orange yarn:
Ch 4. Sc in the second chain from the hook and in the next 2 chains. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Sew the stem to the top of your pumpkin.
Tip: If you want the pumpkin to have more definition, use a yarn needle and a strand of orange yarn to make a few lines from the center toward the outside edge, just like the sections of a real pumpkin.
This would make a great quick Crochet Corner project, and you could easily turn it into a set of 4 or 6 pumpkin coasters for a fall post.
