These little crochet hearts are perfect for Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have to wait for a holiday to make them. They can be used as decorations, magnets, gift toppers, appliques, bookmarks, or little handmade gifts.

This is also a great project for beginners who are learning basic crochet stitches.

Step 1: Make the Center

Start with a magic ring.

If you prefer not to use a magic ring, you can chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a small ring.

Step 2: Begin the Heart

Chain 2.

Work the following stitches into the magic ring:

3 dc, 3 tr, ch 1, 3 tr, 3 dc

You should begin to see the two rounded sections of the heart forming.

Step 3: Finish the Heart

Chain 2.

Slip stitch into the center of the magic ring.

Pull the magic ring tight to close the center.

Fasten off, leaving a small yarn tail.

Step 4: Finish Your Heart

Use a yarn needle to weave in your ends.

Gently shape the heart with your fingers.

If you want a flatter heart, smooth it into shape. If you’d like a fuller heart (make two), you can add a very small amount of stuffing before closing the center completely.

And that’s it!

You have a cute little crochet heart. ❤️

You could leave as is or add a magnet to the back, or make it a pin and add a pin backing or if you would like to make this a plant pot cozy, you would need to add a skewer to the back.

Mine is going to be a plant pot cozy.
