Butterfly

Using purple

Round 1:
Make a magic ring. Chain 2, then crochet 8 dc into the ring. Pull the ring closed and slip stitch into the top of the first dc.

Round 2:
Chain 3. In the same stitch, make 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, and 1 sl st.

Repeat this pattern around the circle to create 4 wings:

sl st, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, sl st

When you reach the beginning, slip stitch to join.

End weaving in all ends.

Make the Body

Using a contrasting color, cut a piece of yarn about 8–10 inches long.

Wrap it tightly around the center of the butterfly a few times. Tie it securely in the back.

Leave the two ends sticking up at the top to create the antennae.

Trim the antennae to your preferred length.

Add the Magnet

Turn the butterfly over and glue a small craft magnet securely onto the back.

Tip: For a refrigerator magnet, a small flat magnet works best and keeps the butterfly lightweight.

If you would like to make this a plant pot cozy, you would need to add a skewer to the back and not the magnet. I take a piece of yarn and place the skewer on the back, glue it in place using a small amount of tacky glue, and then weave yarn through the back of it and around the skewer to secure it in place.
