Hot Summer Here in New England
There’s no denying it—this summer has been a hot one here in New England! While many people think of our region for colorful autumn leaves, snowy winters, and beautiful spring flowers, summer can bring stretches of heat and humidity that make you want to stay indoors with the air conditioning running.
As I sit here with a cool drink nearby and the fan humming in the background, I can’t help but think about how important it is to slow down and enjoy the simple moments during these warm summer days.
Making the Most of Summer
Even though the temperatures have been climbing, summer is still a wonderful season to appreciate. The flowers are blooming, gardens are growing, birds are singing, and there’s something special about the longer daylight hours.
I’ve found that the best way to enjoy summer is by doing activities during the cooler parts of the day. Early mornings can be peaceful, and evenings often bring a welcome breeze that makes sitting outside much more enjoyable.
Sometimes the simplest moments become the best memories.
Staying Creative Indoors
When it’s simply too hot to spend much time outside, I enjoy staying inside and working on some of my favorite hobbies.
Lately I’ve been spending time:
Crocheting small projects
Working on diamond paintings
Planning in my Tula XII Paper Co. planner
Writing new blog posts
Organizing craft supplies
Reading my Bible and journaling
Enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee
Working on my website
One of the wonderful things about creative hobbies is that they give us something enjoyable to focus on while staying cool indoors.
Finding Joy in Simple Things
Summer doesn’t have to be filled with expensive vacations or elaborate plans.
Some of my favorite summer moments are surprisingly simple:
Watching butterflies visit the flowers.
Listening to birds outside the window.
Enjoying fresh fruit.
Reading a good book.
Working on a crochet project.
Laughing with family.
Taking photos of beautiful flowers.
These little moments remind me that happiness often comes from appreciating what’s already around us.
Staying Cool During the Heat
Whenever temperatures soar, it’s important to take care of ourselves.
Here are a few simple things that help me during hot weather:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Stay indoors during the hottest afternoon hours whenever possible.
Wear lightweight, comfortable clothing.
Use fans or air conditioning to stay cool.
Enjoy refreshing fruits like watermelon, strawberries, and grapes.
Take breaks and avoid overdoing outdoor activities.
And don’t forget about your pets! Make sure they always have fresh water and a cool place to rest during the hottest parts of the day.
Summer Favorites
Although many people switch completely to iced drinks during the summer, I still enjoy an occasional hot cup of coffee in the morning. There’s just something comforting about starting the day with a favorite mug before the heat settles in.
Later in the day, I love reaching for:
Lemonade
Fruit-infused water
Iced coffee
They’re refreshing and help make those hot afternoons a little more enjoyable.

Looking Ahead
As much as I enjoy summer, I’ll admit that I’m already looking forward to autumn.
There’s something magical about cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, pumpkin spice, cozy blankets, warm sweaters, and all the wonderful crafts that come with the season.
But for now, I’m choosing to enjoy each sunny day, appreciate the beauty around me, and make the most of this season.
After all, before we know it, we’ll be reaching for our jackets and enjoying crisp fall mornings.

This hot New England summer is reminding me to slow down, stay hydrated, spend time doing the hobbies I love, and appreciate the simple blessings each day brings.
